For as short of a film as it was, I really enjoyed Hotarubi no Mori e. Since the movie is so short, there isn’t really much to talk about; it’s only 40 minutes if you cut out the ending credits. The story basically follows a young girl as she grows up and gets attached to a spirit she meets when she gets lost in the forest, and as it turns out, she’s unable to touch him, as it will cause him to disappear, and so we simply watch as the 2 grow closer and closer to each other, over the multiple summers they spend together (she can only see him during the Summer). Beyond that, the story is just very heartwarming, with a touch of sadness and bitter-sweetness, that makes the film very satisfying to watch. It’s only 40 minutes long and so I would highly suggest you watch it right now, it’s just a feel good story that will make you smile on the inside. Aside from that, there isn’t really much to say other than I thought it was well made, was very soothing, and that I recommend you watch it, I give it an:
8 out of 10.
